The chimes of the little non-denominational church at the top of the hill just sounded eight times. The Old Man is sitting in his favorite place to blog or journal – the back porch.
There are no less than three bird feeders in front of him as he looks out on the gravel road behind their home. The air is constantly filled with the chatter of mocking birds, sparrows, cardinals, and blue jays. On his right he sees their Sweet Bay Magnolia, reaching nearly to the roof of the garage, and the smaller black gum tree, bare of its limbs for winter. On his left, the dense yaupon holly hedge, nearly ten feet tall, encloses him in his own private world. He is at peace.
