Jimmy Carter died on December 29, 2024. I got impatient with President Carter while he was in office. It seemed to me that he moved too slowly and cautiously on civil rights. With a few years to think about it and mature, I realize now that he was working with a fragile majority in Congress, and a deeply divided country.

The flag at our neighborhood mail center was at half staff today. I stopped on the way up to it to assume a position of attention, and to honor the flag (and the memory of President Carter).
